The Friends of Christ Foundation is a non-profit religious corporation (California 501c(3)) founded to provide for the long term financial needs of Christ Community Church of Milpitas (CCCM) in order to ensure that the Lord’s work continues through CCCM for many years to come. Founded in 2001, our sole purpose is to receive and manage funds and assets to be used only for the long term benefit of CCCM. The Foundation works hand in hand with the CCCM leadership and is managed by a Board of Directors elected by, and responsible to, the CCCM Board of Elders.
Churches including CCCM face many legal restrictions concerning the management of financial assets. Churches are legally required to preserve capital and as a result, may only hold cash and cash equivalents. For example, CCCM must immediately liquidate gifted stock, real property and various other assets, even when doing so may not be consistent with the donor’s wishes or in the best interest of the church. In contrast, the Foundation is not subject to these restrictions and has considerable freedom in its choice of investment strategies and assets. This flexibility allows the Foundation to manage assets for a maximum rate of return consistent with the strategic goals of CCCM. As a result, while tithes and offerings intended for short term (current year) use by the church should be directed to CCCM, the Foundation is an excellent means for members and friends of CCCM to make contributions intended to support long term church goals. Gifts through wills, trusts or life insurance are particularly appropriate to be directed to the Friends of Christ Foundation on behalf of CCCM. Further, gifts of appreciated assets including stock, bonds and real property may provide the donor with substantial personal tax benefits when compared with cash of equal value. The Friends of Christ Foundation stands ready to join with you to facilitate your long term stewardship in support of the Lord’s work at Christ Community Church of Milpitas. “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” Matthew 25:23 May God Continue to Bless, Abbott Smith |
